If it's really nice it should have good security in place... and if it's sufficiently nice I won't even have to leave my room if I don't want to

My mom found a nice hotel in a sketchy neighborhood, and the thing is she wants to site see so she'd have to leave the hotel, i pretty much told her that it's probably fine during the day but at night it becomes really seedy and she ultimately decided to spend a few extra bucks and stay in a non sketchy neighborhood. its right past chinatown and past chinatown things start to get sketchy plus that neighborhood is pretty desolate.it be fine if she didn't have to leave her hotel. or had a conference all in the hotel that be fine.if she was with my brother or an uncle i'd be like yeah that's fine, but she a white female.

if you're walking that might be a problem, but if you're taking a cab it shouldn't be...

also she decided it was too far from where i live and didn't want to travel up here everyday. But she wouldn't spend money on a cab she'd walk to the el stop. I know her.

and we talked about her taking cabs and figured theirs weekend parking near me for like 35-40$ in one of the surface lots and if she took a cab everywhere it offset the free parking so its sort of convience as well.

I've stayed in a sketchy hotel in a sketchy neighbourhood, adds to the experience. So yeah, definitely.

Yeah I think a lot of the times people not familiar with an area perceive danger where it's actually just a little run-down or... gasp... ethnically diverse. Not that there aren't more dangerous areas and less dangerous areas. I think a lot of discomfort can be attributed to unfamiliarity, though.

Edit: okay I see we are talking about different things here.
