I'm just a simply country freelance textbook/test writer, but as far as I know, it's kind of a basic rule of test generation that you write question and answer choices in a way that doesn't provide clues to the other questions.

You'd think so (and it probably is) but in my experience it happens quite often anyway.

    800 Math, 750 Verbal
So-so GPA in high school- I think it was a 3.7-ish GPA, one that went down after college decisions.
Got into awesome college over higher-ranked people with lower test scores in my school.
Dunno why. Duke must have thought I would add to their vibrant Greek scene,
Now I am getting by with a sub 3.0 GPA in college.. counting on the LSAT (GRE, GMAT.. w/e comes next) to save me.

I had a 770 Verbal and 710 Math, and a 3.7 GPA in high school. I did Early Action to UPenn, though. And I got to take my interview over the phone and I killed it. Having my mom work for the health system and having worked in the hospital library one summer in high school probably helped, as well. Penn asks for Page 217 of your autobiography, and I wrote about leaving for Europe for the first time when I was 15. Only later did my friend tell me that they probably assumed that Page 217 of my autobiography should be sometime in the future. I imagined that it would be 1,000+ pages.

EDIT: I took the SAT twice. 700 Verbal and 690 Math sophomore year, and then the 770-710. I was also hung over the second time I took it.

I took it while I was considering studying in the US, though by the time I took it I had changed my mind about the States. Due to a few of my fellow classmates planning to study abroad (one of them -- incidentally the valedictorian -- is now set to attend Yale) and their interest in the score I would get, -- I used to help them with the reading section practice, because my vocabulary, picked up while wasting a lot of time in front of the computer all these years, is larger -- I ended up sitting it, without any preparation. (And I too was interested, of course)

My results were 750 in Reading, 720 in Math and 640 in Writing... which, I was told was not bad at all...
    Not really.

    710 Reading
    630 Math
    600 Writing

And that altogether isn't too bad.

Haven't taken the SAT yet, but on the PSAT (as a sophmore), I got a 600 writing, 720 reading, and 720 math....or 2040/2400. No prep, didn't even look at the practice book from the school.
