I knocked some guy out when i hit him full force across the temple with my rock of a cell phone, if that counts. I was amazed I could do it. He followed me home after i was out with friends and i had to do something so luckily my house was a block from where it happened and i ran home.
A falling star fell from your heart and landed in my eyes,
I screamed aloud, as it tore through them,
and now it's left me blind...

    - Are these weapons merely for the deterrent effect in case an intruder attacks your home (or car... etc)?
    - Do you know how to use them?
    - If push came to shove, would you use them in case of an attack?
    - Have you used them? How did you feel about it afterward?
    Yes.
    No.
    Yes.
Absolutely. Whole purpose of having them.
    Yes. Fine.

I've used weapons in attack, not just defence and I think the idea of using a weapon defensively is a bit stupid.

I just hold with the idea that overwhelming force is required sometimes, there are dumb people, frequently dumb, weak people will run out of options other than violence really quickly and who'll deploy a weapon quickly too and you've got to deal with that reality sometimes. I dont casually carry a weapon spend a lot of time thinking about this, I do see and size up what can become a weapon in a room very quickly (if you think other people dont do this, particularly the psychos you want to be on guard against you're wrong), I check exits sometimes too. The thing about weapons is that a lot of the time the people who deploy them wind up getting them used against them, particularly if they are stupid and think that flashing them is going to be sufficient to scare people off.

    OP: interesting question.

    Answer: I have not.

I do have a 20 inch flashlight next to my bed to protect my family if I have to. No guns or knifes in the house. I have had girlfriends who carry pepper sprain which I support.

I have dogs and a cell phone and I'm not afraid to use them.

I feel pretty safe, but all these big, strong, well-armed men make me wonder if I'm missing something.
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

Your current environment, and previous experience, usually have a lot to do with having weapons around.
