No. If one isn't given any other choice. I consider it an ideal.

Panic makes it very easy for people to do things which can never be rectified. Give people power and that might be a problem. Give dumb people problem and you start making me nervous. I mean, are these people even trained in firearm wielding?

Actually, people who are willing to shell out between a week and a month's pay for a rifle generally have an interest in firearms and will seek out training and/or take the time to practice with the arm.

This is in contrast to many police officers, who are not as a rule "gunny" people, and who only shoot to qualify with their sidearms once a year. Consequently most of our gun enthusiast are actually better at handling and using firearms than the police are.

We in the US do love our guns. (at least the gun owners do)

    - None, obviously some kitchen knives and sharp tools.
    - Kitchen knives and sharp tools? No.
    - Yes, they're kitchen knives and sharp tools, I know how to use kitchen knives and sharp tools.
    - No, they're for preparing food and fixing things.
    - Jup, felt good cause I made dinner, my front door etc.

As for self defence, I've only been in a(n unplanned) fight once, for the rest I've got my quick wit and general likeability to save me from fighting situations.

NONE, though I suppose there are things you could use if you needed to.

I once at age 16, pulled a pocket-knife on one of the neighborhood juvenile delinquents who had broken into my house. I was absolutely ready to use it. Thankfully, I didn't have to. A couple of years later, I heard that same guy got in a fight and was cut/stabbed 18 times.

I have an exceptional specimen of an axe and a baseball bat within reach incase of emergency
(also had some training in air cadets as a youngster firing a semi automatic rifle-it was a phase)

Nope not needed, unfortunatly there have been events when i could have used a weapon but had none to hand.

Why: Because I like to shoot.

How: b/c I live in Florida, where the gun laws are reasonable.

The carbine was actually the first gun I ever purchased. I think I was 19 at the time.

    None whatsoever.

If you don't consider my sarcastic wit and sharp tongue as weapons. However, as it usually happens, the sarcasticalness of my wit and the sharpness of my tongue are inversely proportional to the time passing after the "attack", when they're actually needed to defend me.
