Overwhelming moments. Heartbreak. When people are in love, but one dies. Etc

    Examples:
Children of Men (when all of the soldiers are silent). Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (not Dumbledore, but Hermione's scene). Time Traveler's Wife (almost the whole damn movie ).

I teared up at the end of "Saving Private Ryan" when he was at the grave and proceeded to ask his wife, "...Have I lived a good life?"

    Yeah, what? Getatme

    True.

And excellent reason to not cry!

I don't cry during movies. Only one I can think of was The Little Princess with Shirley Temple. I think I watched it when I was about her age in the movie (even tho I'd seen it plenty of times before)... I teared up a little.

I remember one of my cousins cried during Titanic. A bunch of us cousins were at the theater. Little cousin gets my attention and points at crying cousin...we laugh and definitely can't stifle it...and for some reason little cousin thought it would be funny if we clapped a couple of times. LOL! I'm laughing just typing this out!!! :yim_rolling_on_the_

I hate feeling manipulated into emotion especially during scenes when one feels there is all but a director's note subtitled on the scene saying "Now, you cry".

Still, I do often tear up during movies though. You'd never know it if we were watching a movie together (I think the last time anyone saw me cry was when I was 15. LOL).

    A few culprits:

    Pan's Labryinth
    Inglorious Basterds
    The Fox and The Hound.
    Kingdom of Heaven
    Edward Scissorhands
    The Lion King (Mufasa...)
    Saving Private Ryan
    Hotel Rwanda
    Homeward Bound
    Goodwill Hunting
    John Q
LOTR ROTK (You bow to no one.)
Shawshank Redemption (Some birds aren't meant to be caged.... I guess I just miss my friend.)

it is very hard for me to cry, i never really manage more than a few tears.
it is a lot easier for me to cry during a movie than in real life, though.

    the scene in A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints where the characters talk directly to the camera, that really makes me tear up a lot. it is when Giuseppe and Laurie and Antonio talk to the camera that kind of breaks my heart;
    "i'm Giuseppe, Antonio's brother",
"I'm Laurie, and everybody's gonna leave me. i know they are."
"i'm a piece of shit, and that's who i am."

also the scene in that movie on the train track, the dialogue between Giuseppe and Antonio, that is pretty heartbreaking too.

The Color Purple, when she reads her sister's letter that says "I love you and I'm not dead." I cry every time.

The Joy Luck Club has several scenes that make me cry. I started to tell one of them and thought better of it in case it haunts you too.

    Definitely The Green Mile.

Almost always, its because I gain an emotional attachment to the character.. so when it becomes sad or hurt or scared, so do I.

Yeap. I have to admit that made me cry too. That scene alone made the the movie worth seeing!

A movie doesn't necessarily have to be sad or melancholy for the water works to come. As long as I can identify, and empathize, with a character on a deeply personal level or the movie reveals something about human nature and what it means to be human, then I'll probably cry.

One pattern I've noticed is that I don't usually cry during many well-received big budget tearjerkers out today (tears from hilarity don't count). Name any popular romantic comedy or romantic drama that came out in the last twenty years and I either haven't seen or simply didn't like it.

The Notebook didn't make me cry. Atonement didn't make me cry. Armageddon, Lion King, Saving Private Ryan, Moulin Rouge, Braveheart, A Walk to Rememer, and The Green Mile* didn't move me at all.

My heart did swell a little at the end of Wright's Pride and Prejudice, admittedly, although his adaptation was a far cry from Austen's original plot.

A Brief List of Movies I Cried While Watching:
    • The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
    • Away We Go
    • Amélie
    • Hidalgo
    • City Lights
    • Requiem for a Dream
    • Science of Sleep
    • The Piano
    • The Great Dictator [this is weird, but I do that strange laughcry thing during the globe scene every time I see it]
    • To Kill A Mockingbird
    • The Color Purple
    • The Red Violin
    • Where the Wild Things Are
    • Dead Man Walking
    • Half Nelson
    • Tsotsi
    • Rabbit Proof Fence
    • Brokeback Mountain
    • A Clockwork Orange
    • Life Is Beautiful
    • Boys Don't Cry

*I didn't cry because I have a whole other hosts of issues with that movie.
