Because I always (well, I suppose not always) think of their gross rotting body parts. The scenario in my mind is more like I don't see them coming and then I'm engulfed in rotting flesh that wants to eat me, and is making horrible noises while trying to eat me.

Killing them is an option and I could if I were ever faced with one, but I don't even like to kill bugs. I suppose however, the guilt would subside.

    Giant sea creatures are scary.

The parasite from The Thing. There's something even more unnerving in escalating paranoia, waiting around, distrusting everybody...until the creature emerges.

Worst moment -- when she "blips" from the TV at the end to Noah's side. I about screamed and fell off my chair.

Mundane but understandable monsters aren't too bad. Godzilla is sort of boring to me. Some of the ones that creep me out have already been mentioned:

    - Samara
    - Asian "grudge/revenge" ghosts
    - Freddy Kruger

... and any critter that can follow you anywhere and you cannot protect yourself, no matter what you do.

    - Alien(s)
    - Crawlers in "The Descent"
"Impossible to escape" but in a more physical sense.

    - Mordred from "Dark Tower" and other sucking spider critters
"impossible to escape," eat you / suck you dry when you're alive

    - Zombies from "28 Days Later"
    One screwup and you're dead/turned.

    - Scumbags in "Hostel"
Methodical torture, no mercy or way to escape.

I really really do not like things that just come at you and rip you to pieces and eat you while you're alive either.

    ....

getting back to the OP, if I want to think purely strategically....
... Medusa would be sort of frustrating and hard to deal with.

Yeah, but if you had to pick one to fight, wouldn't you want a chance? Those "crawlers" in the Descent would be child's play once you get some lights on.

I wouldn't need to fight Godzilla.
I'd just have to get away.
That's not too hard, if he doesn't step on me.
I thought of the War of the World machines but they don't bother me much either, same reason... really big, and avoidable.

The others, I can't defeat AND can't escape from.

With the crawlers, I was examining the movie in context; the heroes couldn't escape. You were doomed to be eaten and only had climbing axes/picks to fight with. If you actually had automatic weapons? Different story.

PS. Sharks creep me out too.
I have trouble swimming in the ocean due to fear of sharks.... even though statistically there's just no real chance I'll ever get bitten.

How you going to avoid Godzilla? You're in the middle of a city, he's coming for you. Same situation the people in the movies are in.

*shrug* I either hide somewhere or run while he is going after someone else. I mean, really, he's so big -- if I have time to run, I can probably get away. My most likely death is immediately either getting stepped on or trapped in a collapsed building.

Alternative Solution #1: Sic Rodan or Mothra on him.
Alternative Solution #2: I run at the guy in the big rubber suit and just push him over!
