The real vs. username distinction is irrelevant to me, although in an ideal world, I would prefer to call everyone by their real name because of the mildly annoying inauthenticity of usernames.

For instance, what if usehername decided to usehername instead of a username? If I didn't call usehername by her username, and instead I decided to usehername, would I be calling her by her username, usehername, or would I usehername instead?

luckily for me, i rarely ever address anyone, and even less frequently by their name.

instead, when i do engage someone, i pull on their coat or poke their shoulder or something.
or more realistically, i make eye contact and start talking.

I've met at least 5 people irl that I met on here and it was never awkward using their real name. What's awkward is when your rl friends who knew you well before TypeC call you by your TypeC name when they're drunk.

I've met 5 people in person that I know from here, and I'm not sure I ever addressed any of them by name.

The real embarrassing one (just to me in my head because I didn't say anything - until now) was when I met up with proteanmix and Cze Cze. Because pm told me "[Cze Cze's real name] is coming too" but I didn't know who she was talking about, then when "CC" arrived, she introduced herself by her real name, but also said her forum name but I didn't understand what she said, but then like 5 minutes later after we're still talking it suddenly hits me who she is. Obviously, the way she pronounced "Cze Cze" wasn't anywhere close to how I pronounce it in my head, so I didn't make the connection until I had been looking at her long enough to remember her from pictures she's posted. Then I was like

Actually, when we were planning a Texas meetup last year (we still need to do this by the way!) I had mild anxiety that i was gonna not keep straight who was who and I'd be calling people by wrong names or whatever and just making a total fool of myself. The thing you have to understand is, yeah, I'm kind of a dumbass online, but in person, it's like MAGNIFIED. With the added curse of I tend to get kinda hurt when it feels like people are making fun of me, so everything just compounds and that's part of why I don't go out very often.

And only like 2% of this post is really relevant to the topic, but I felt like posting it, so blah.

How do you pronounce her username anyhow? I've always wondered. I also don't remember ever seeing pictures of her. Are they in the picture thread?

Hahaha, thanks for sharing Jeffster! You know, I thought something like that might have happened. Because I talk very fast and both my username and real name have non-standard pronunciation.

Don't worry, I actually *mixed up* two members on the forum before!

Fidelia, I pronounce it "Chay-Chay". I think Beat pronounces it "C-zee" though, lol.
