I can't take all the credit for this very successful thread at sixty-two posts, after all it was created by Halla.

And whether he knew it or not, he struck a nerve. Or perhaps he struck oil. For Halla has sparked the interest of many, for and against.

Or perhaps it was a little more than Halla bargained for, and a little more than he expected. Perhaps we were all waiting, tinder-dry, just waiting for the spark of Halla.

And what a conflagration for sixty-two posts, what emotion, what feeling, what flashing eyes. And I think it has turned into a festival, clamouring for attention, demanding attention, as the conflagration burnt in front of us. Each one of us free to flame out to our heart's content.

So, as you see, I can't take all the credit.

I think you're being deliberately provocative when you imply that depression is a womanly condition. Depression is more common among females, yes, but there's no reason to keep driving it home unless you're trying to challenge someone's masculinity. Short of that, you're trying to lead this thread down some tangent that I can only dream of, which is just as bad.

Problems do not generally solve themselves while you sit around and discuss them. At some point, you have to get up and do something, and the main thing I get from this thread is encouragement to do so. If you think that's "snake oil," I would be glad to hear what you propose we do instead.

Well as a general rule I think this approach is good, especially if the person on the receiving end is somewhat down/depressed/unsatisfied with her life. BUT I personally think chance plays a bigger role past a certain baseline level.
