Wow. Americans seem to really get their knickers in a twist over the terms 'yankee' and 'yank'. Its OK Americans, you're all special and unique with many distinct cultures and accents. I embrace your diversity . Does everyone feel better now?

Hmmm, does this mean I have to stop saying 'yank tank' for giant American SUVs? But my American friend thought it was hilarious...

It's not the term yankee, I imagine most northerners wouldn't mind being called a yankee. It's just not really "an accent"

Am I crazy? Do any other americans agree/disagree?

I don't mind when I get called a yankee. Most of the times it makes me giggle. It's just that it's too vague and transient a term to describe an accent.

In Cockney, a "septic tank" (Yank) is an American; a "sweaty sock" (Jock) is a Scot.

A good insult is worth so much more than a compliment.

    This is very true.

And here we call Yankees, Septics.

Of course Septic being rhyming slang for septic tank and Yank.

We do know that most Yankees don't even like being called Yankees, and here in the diplomatic capital, to call them Septics would spark an international incident.

But this is because Septics have no sense of humour, but think they have the best sense of humour in the world.

The Germans, on the other hand, have no sense of humour, but they know they have no sense of humour - but at least they are efficient.

So here, we are the soul of diplomatic discretion, and the word Septic remains samizdat.

Gosh Victor, that's a pretty broad generalization, isn't it? I don't like the way you're boxing in my unique personality. You should have more respect for individuals and their freedom of expression, you know.
If you could be anything you want, I bet you'd be disappointed--am I right?

    G'day Septic, how ya goin'?

Everyone knows that the first casualty of Revolution is irony, so naturally we expect all Septics to be deaf to irony. And we are not disappointed.

Of course vast swathes of Septicaemia were settled by Germans who have no sense of humour at all, but at least the grace to admit it before God. So the Septics have not only inherited the large German jaw but the German sense of humour as well.

We know it is a very impressive jaw but made of glass, so we touch it only with the utmost tact.
