It just goes to show, enthnocentrism is not just a failing of Americans. It's a human trait.
It's amazing to notice how many Americans presume we don't know their general history, especially when most of the time, we know it far better than they do.

    Sad but true.

And besides, considering the way you bombard us with your popular culture, we have no other option but to learn it in great details.

Anyway. When I included the "Yankee" option, YES, I know what a Yankee is, and YES, I thought to that particular area of the USA.

It's exactly like the distinction I made between Scots and Gaels, or what I tried to explain with India, since Indian-English is NOT a genuine English accent, at least linguistically speaking.

For the record, Southern and Texan accents are completely different.

Everyone knows that pop culture is the same as history.

So I googled "yankee accent" and apparently it's what some southerners call non-southern accents? Makes sense that you would use a term like that, now that I get what it means.

I shall say it again and again:

When I meant "Yankee accent", I meant the accent you hear in New England, and maybe in some corners of NYC.

    That's all.

If you have another definition (Vermont?), then please, explain it to me.

All those accents are awesome, especially the Texan one. What's not awesome are Kentuckian accents.

    Peguy,

I don't want to butter you up, but are you aware you're not the standard average American guy?
