I haven't spent a Valentine's Day with a significant other in... my entire life. It honestly doesn't bother me. It's a holiday like a bunch of others and a lot of them i don't partake in either.

Here's a list of holidays that i don't celebrate or see no point in for myself that i'd make a thread to complain about if i cared:
Presidents Day, Groundhog Day, Martin Luther King Day, Passover, Earth Day, Arbor Day, Cinco de Mayo, Yom Kippur, Veterans Day, Hanukkah (i mean for fuck's sake i couldn't even spell it three times just now!), Kwanzaa... etc

Sure, couples don't need a specific day, but it's nice. It's even nice to witness unless you are that lonely or bitter.
Can you honestly tell me that things like Christmas and Easter have a real purpose behind them anymore? They definitely don't for me and have dwindled into consumer holidays where you typically spend them with family. I could get into an entire rant, but i'll stop there for now.

I have to say I'm the complete opposite, I totally love valentines day, all the traditional holidays which remain in the popular psyche I love. The fact that valentines day is about celebrating love, lovers and being in love makes it particularly special to me because I'm a die hard romantic.

Its not a time to brood and feel lonely, you can do that every other day of the year, its not a time to store up all your romantic feelings for either but it is a day to mark the occasion with those things if you happen to be coupled up.

If anything I could only complain about the fact that its been hijacked by consumerism, most of what is peddled this time of year couldnt even be considered kitschy or pastiche, its even worse that, its a lot of tat and todays brilliant heart felt romantic gesture is tommorrows trash that wont fit in the bin. That's alienating, dont get alienated from love, get alientated by that.

    No. Not really.

I do agree with the thread though, not because the day is unpleasant in itself, or it makes me feel bad, but I just find celebrations like that to be annoying.

And outlets need a big romantic ENFJ once a year. That's why they created Valentine's, after all!

    Oh, I love that line!

I've never celebrated Valentine's Day. But it's a day like any other, it's up to you how special you want it to be or how much you will let yourself be influenced by your personal circumstances or others around you.

Valentine's Day spews huge chunks of green lava from a trash can filled with larva of the decaying sausages left over from last year's Oktoberfest. Valentine's Day is that guzzling gas tank that finally explodes and excretes disgusting arrays of boiling oil on your face. Valentine's Day is the time when they take a thousand dogs who have eaten only potatoes for the past month and lock them up in the space of about 10 square meters with no window.

Valentine's Day...well, I think you get my point.
