    I'm confused.

    Could you please clarify?

    You like those shows, yes?

They seem useful and interesting to me too, as the content is relevant.
"Hall pass" is an American term for "allowed to occur without penalization."

For instance, if reality shows were to be banned vy an official decree, a hall pass could be granted to National Geographic and Discovery Channel reality shows.

Does that make more sense, or did I miss the boat?

I believe there is an offbutton on most TVs. You should try to push that button.
I was sitting outside the classroom waiting to go in, and I saw an airplane hit the tower. The TV was obviously on. I used to fly myself and I said, "There's one terrible pilot."

If you don't agree about my MBTI type, you can complain about it here. I've had plenty of people telling me I'm something else, in my reputation box. That's annoying.

but I don't really like any kind of reality shows anyways. I like documentaries. Those shows even in NG and Discovery are often stupid.

Awww how cute. I don't turn mine on that frequently, and when I do it's usually for background noise. But thank you for your brilliant suggestion. I'll write it on a 3"x5" card when I get home and then soak it in gasoline and light it on fire.

Udog is right. Unfortunately, there's an even scarier element to it. Because reality TV is very inexpensive to make, a lot less people need to watch it to make it profitable. A scripted program, being more expensive, needs more viewers to make it financially viable.

    This has a twofold effect:

    1. There is less financial incentive for quality programming than there was 10 years ago (at least on the major broadcast network level).

    2. The normally solid theory that broadcasters just give us what we want and we have to stop watching to make it go away is less valid with reality TV because fewer of us need to watch it to make it viable.
