Yeah, in that way there are many members here who have a lot of influence. But, I'd say most of them have positive influence. And there are really so many of them that it kinda balances out anyway. Some give the more cool-headed responses, some fluff things out and so on... I like it here...

    Default VOTE SPAMTAR FOR DICTATOR!

Ok, thats it. Ima taking over this one horse town. I know its what you all want but don’t have the guts to say. Its easy just put your lips together and say absolute ruler…that’s right ab-so-lute. Now doesn’t it feel grand to remove this great encumbrance of liberty and take in the joys of submission. To me I am the special type of person to boldly accept and grant all of your wishes.

Now someone hand me a clipboard.
    All right hup too!

You, you, u over there, tighten up that grammar.
You with the anime avi wipe your colon and semicolon and then wash your hands.
You NFJs always so self important and always on your period.
And no sniggering from you FPs, with your comma come-hither font teasing and emoting
What I want is more...ellipses, that’s the word…the carefree Ellipsis.
Now dash over there -and don't make me exclaim!

Seriously we are not people. We are just words that happen to be on my computer screen.

This forum has only what each and every person perceives to be dominant. If I were to think that people like 'John' and 'Jane' are very dominant on the forums other people would think otherwise and therefore because of our perceptions we only see a small part of the picture. What we see as dominant could very well be what our narrow exploration of the forums hold in our eyes. It is usually if by chance you keep catching the same people over and over again that then we start to perceive them to be dominant. And favouring someone's dominance is favouring your own weakness.

Dominance... On a public forum?... Or in real life?

I think the most dominant member here would be fairly submissive offline/elsewhere.

Yay, I can pull a "Word Processor of the Gods" and delete you!

Honestly, much power is illusory in nature.
    It's just more obvious online.

Even though I know this will get me added to your ignore list if I'm not already on it...

    +1

The dude made like 9500 posts in 6 months. It was impossible to ignore him.

    Why does it matter?

I'm having this argument with Jag in PM right now.
It's funny how you guys are distinguishing between power as if some sort of power "don't count."

Tell that to all the gay people who can't get married.
Or to people who lose their homes in hurricanes.
    Or someone burglarized at gunpoint.

it's not MLK or Abraham Lincoln or some admirable and enduring application of power.
Still, there are different types of power, all with different pro's/con's...
    ... but it's still power.

People dominate through a variety of means.

The only real power JF seemed to have was by posting so much so often and in such an offensive way that people felt compelled to respond because they were irritated with him.

That's pretty much what I do (though proportionally less than JF in terms of post count and percentage of posts that are intentionally offensive), but I don't consider myself to be "powerful" just because I generate a lot of negative responses.

I would think that a truly powerful person would be well-respected enough that people would be afraid to disagree with him for fear of appearing out of the loop.

That certainly wasn't the case with JF or any member who makes a point of trolling for fun (myself included.)
