Damnit, and I was hoping we wouldn't have one today.

Greetings from FL. I'll take hurricanes over earthquakes any day. You Californians have some real balls.

i am in hurricane country too. they had one here in the 1960's that wiped out the city. at that time Belize City was the capitol of Belize, but they relocated the capitol to Belmopan after the hurricane.

but i grew up in california, in LA. i lived there during the northridge quake, i think i was about 17 then.

But see, that's the thing, earthquakes have never been a big deal or something we even worried about because they happen so infrequently. A big one hits, we clean up the mess and go on another 10 or more years with relative calm. Compared to having regular, yearly damage by hurricanes and tornados, I'd still prefer the earthquakes, even if there is no way to really predict them.

I've only experienced/heard reported a handful of quakes in my life thus far, so to have quakes 3.0 and larger every day for 6 days straight is rather alarming to me.

No, we don't. This obviously has to do with me being born in 1990 (right after the last major one), but the majority of earthquakes in my experience consist of my dad asking "Did you feel it?" and me saying "No." Or else the house shook a bit and it was kind of fun.

Yeah, that's something I didn't know, never having lived in California. So that's why no one usually seems bothered by it.

This recent constant wave contrasts pretty clearly with that, and it makes sense (I guess) that if the "once a decade" trend is being followed, that these are the shadows of the real one.

I'm not holding my breath. If it happens, it happens. It's always a risk here and I can't worry all the time about when a "big one" will strike. But I know where my shoes, flashlight, etc. are at night. I'm aware of my environment and its dangers (unattached bookshelves, windows, etc.) and to crouch/shield my head and neck from debris. I can only hope that's enough.
