Native Languages: Luo (Kenyan tribal language), Swahili
I spoke both Luo and Swahili fluently and at a pretty excellent level regardless of my age when I was still living in Kenya, (0-4) But as soon as I moved to England I basically disregarded my native languages. My parents were told not to communicate to me in my Native tongues so I naturally lost a great deal of proficiency in them while learning English to my now fluent level. Now I can pretty much translate a conversation from Luo to English.I can respond to Luo in English, but I struggle somewhat to form some words and string complex sentences and conversations together in Luo. It's interesting in that I have a very holistic approach to understanding Luo.I can pretty much follow a conversation perfectly, but it's always almost unconsciously translated into English.
My cold, snide, intellectual life is just a veneer, behind which lies the plywood of loneliness.
"How dreadful!" cried Lord Henry. "I can stand brute force, but brute reason is quite unbearable. There is something unfair about its use. It is hitting below the intellect." ~ Oscar Wilde - The picture of Dorian Gray
