    Default Send Shane A Card

I just got an invite to this event on facebook. This kid is 7 years old and was diagnosed with acute lymphoblast leukemia when he was five. His birthday is May 30th and his wish is to receive birthday cards. He's trying to beat the world record of 350 million cards received, and I thought it was kinda cool. You have to send store-bought birthday cards. They said home made cards are welcome, but don't count towards the total (I have no idea why).

Anyway, this struck me as something that some people here would find kinda cool. This is the adress:

    Shane Bernier
    PO Box 484
    Lancaster, Ontario
    K0C 1N0
    Canada

From the United States it takes two postage stamps.

If he survives he can start his own card recycling business.

I don't wish to sound heartless, but you would think that people would know better than to ask for this kind of thing, given the result of the previous attempt.
I'll get you my pretty, and your little hermit crab too!

    He's seven. That's why.

I put the card in the mailbox when we were on our evening walk. Don made fun of me and the Snopes defense did not deflect it. Oh well. I don't mind getting scammed for two stamps and a card I already had.

I have an eight year old little boy and I can't imagine . . .
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

It annoyed me for a little while too, but I figured I should shed my cynicism every once in a while.
