This thread is agitating me. The responses, that is. I can, for instance, cut life's "chocolates" in half, it's just not the kind of "life" they think would be enjoyable or "worth living."

"Life's shit and then you fucking die, you know.." - Ozzy Osbourne

The same idea, huh? Life = Shit, Death = Unknown. So, how to choose? And that is the main dilemma in life. (Ok, it's not what he meant, I know)

But, how about concentrating not on the box of chocolates, but on the person giving you the box of chocolates. A man gives a woman a box of chocolates on a date in a romantic movie. It isn't about the chocolates, but the gesture. And the man isn't giving the box because he thinks that the box of chocolates is what the woman needs. In fact the man wants something in return. Now, what does this tell about god? Or we might think that our life was given to us by our parents. They also want something from us, it isn't like they did it for us, as they had no idea if we like chocolate or not, as they had never met us before.

Is life still like a box of chocolates for people who are allergic to chocolate?

I have a feeling they know exactly what they're going to get in that box.

I've always heard it as "you only begin to know anything when you realize you know nothing", which makes a lot more sense, wouldn't you say?

IMO facetiously taking metaphors over-literally was mildly funny 30 years ago when George Carlin first did it, but now not as much.
