Default What music did you grow up with?

What music did you grow up with (before you were of an age to pick out your own music). What did your folks or older siblings listen to?

Do you think you have any extra affinity (or distaste) for that specific genre as a result? Do you think that an emotional connection/association with music can make you like something that wouldn't normally attract you? I know that certain important people to me have introduced me to types of music that I otherwise wouldn't have explored or appreciated as much.

    Parents played:
    Roger Whittaker
    Nana Miscourri (sp)
    John Denver (lots!)
    Gordon Lightfoot

    Siblings played:
    Steve Earle, Monkees, Abba
Remember songs from my sister's high school days like Who's Johnny She Said?, Pop Goes the World, I Love You For Your Pink Cadillac, Somewhere Out There, Walk Like An Egyptian, Spirit In the Sky

My parents never listened to music much. What little music I heard at home by proxy was my brothers music. But he was an INFJ (and you know how they all have bad taste in music for the most part). Guns N Roses was one of the few I liked and remember listening to.

My father was especially fond of Schubert's Lieder, Rameau, Dowland, Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. His knowledge of classical music has always been very deep and precise. My older brother, on the hand, enjoyed nothing less than punk music of the late 70'es, or Klezmer. It also was a way to show his difference, I guess.

But as I grew older, I rather developed a taste for Bach or the likes of Debussy, Satie or Janacek.

Grandma played country and some classic rock. SO I was hearing Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Garth Brooks, Brooks & Dunn, George Strait, Clint Black, Dolly Parton, The Beatles, Beach Boys, Buddy Holly, Elvis etc.

I still enjoy most of those today. I've integrated metal and more into the mix though

A mix of country [bleh], 50's rockabilly-bluesy-type stuff, swing/jazz.. the most obnoxious 80's pop, and whatever the hell genre you want to throw Patti Smith into.

There was always music on in my house growing up.. it's essentially another appendage.
