I've always heard that English is easy to learn as a foreign language at first, and then later it gets hard. Easy to learn enough to communicate, hard to learn to speak perfectly. Simple grammar, but too many exceptions to every rule.

This looks like a fairly simple and organized site to help with English grammar. Take a look at the number 2 and "List all topics".

No, I think that's because lots of native English speakers are just superior acting assholes, not because they don't understand. I understand people all of the time whom don't speak English as their first language, because I care and pay attention, and understand how difficult it can be to communicate in a language that is not your mother tongue. I think learning French has opened my eyes a lot to this fact, and I want to learn at least one more language.

Speaking from personal experience, I can confirm that. I've had my fair share of grammar and style / translation classes that made me think I don't know jack about English.
And the grammar isn't as easy as it looks. The tense system can be a real bitch.

A survey of dark moods: Attraction, preference and tolerance for them.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd like to understand this topic in order to understand one individual in my life and get along better with that person. Perhaps this is a common theme - so this survey may help other persons besides me, as well.

I'm trying to find what kind of factors lead to people being tolerant of dark moods, and the extent to which internal and external stressors play in their lives. I'm also trying to find how life skills and achievement work into it.

    Here goes.

How much do you agree to each the following statements?
    1: Strongly disagree
    2: Somewhat disagree
    3: Neither agree or disagree
    4: Somewhat agree
    5: Strongly agree
Please give a numerical response to every question that you can.

If you wish, explain your answers, too, but I don't expect this of anyone. A number alone is sufficient.

Q1. As a general rule, I'm always directed towards success and solving problems.
Q2. As of right now, I'm urgently trying to improve my lot in life.
Q3. I often joke about other people's problems.
Q4. People should support the good mood in a group.
Q5. Life is so unjust, I almost wish I wouldn't have to take part in it.
Q6. I often get depressed from all these terrible things that are happening to me.
Q7. I should be treated with dignity, because I'm a human being after all.
Q8. I don't get that depressed at all when discussing dark topics.
Q9. I wouldn't want to spoil the mood by complaining about my problems.
Q10. If someone loved me, they would listen to my problems and give me comfort.
Q11. People should understand how they make others feel with what they say.
Q12. If people want respect, they have to treat others with respect.
Q13. I can't relate to most of the stuff that happy people talk about.
Q14. Happy people don't seem to have any depth.
Q15. I can tolerate, even enjoy, a lot of depressing ideas.
Q16. If I'm in a bad mood, everyone should be in a bad mood.
Q17. I cry with those who cry, and I laugh with those who laugh.
Q18. Some people's personal problems are a joke.
Q19. Things often turn out bad in my life.
    Q20. As a general rule, I'm a happy person.
Q21. Depressive thoughts are always with me.
Q22. Life is easy enough for me to have a happy, carefree mood for most of the time.
Q23. I can put my feelings aside when I need to do something important.
Q24. If enough bad things happen to me, I just spill it out and make it known to everyone.
Q25. My mood is a result of things that have happened to me, and I can't help it.
Q26. I live through my moods very intensely.
Q27. I'm easy to get along with.
Q28. I'm such a burden to other people.
Q29. Take me as I am, or leave me be.
Q30. Other people are there to help me with my problems.

You had very, very minor mistakes here, which I attempted to correct. Your English skills are excellent, especially for a non-native speaker.
