Default Can you live without television?

It's not unheard of to hear about people who can't take a shit or sleep without the tv on. I hear people even have withdrawal symptoms from trying to quit the tube. So would you be able to?

Well, it's a novelty to be first at something!! I do not own a television - and we didn't have one when I was growing up either.

I did for the last five years. I think it was a good experience. I didn't want to spend $400/mon for TV in the north where I lived (you had to get satellite to get anything) and my boyfriend also had decided not to bother. Overall, I think it improved the quality of my life. I still was incredibly busy and I know that had TV been there I would have been likely to use it as a method of procrastination and get even further behind. Instead I started making exercising regularly a priority, kept in touch with people who mattered to me, did extra-curricular clubs after school, and became a good cook. For anyone who hasn't ever been without, I'd recommend trying it, even if only temporarily. It also makes you appreciative of what is worth watching on TV. Now I have a TV, but rarely get around to watching it. I've chosen to have farmer vision on purpose.

The last time I properly sat and watched t.v. was about 3 months ago. So yes, I'm very capable of going without t.v. at all for extremely long periods of time.

The ads... they make me feel like my brain cells are melting! I have a monitor thing that doesn't have a tuner so no TV, but I do like watching movies!

I don't have a TV set. I moved out from a house with one in April and haven't really noticed any 'withdrawal syndromes' - but I wasn't a TV-person to begin with.

Yes. I hardly ever watch television. Only have one right now, in the living room.

I watch a good amount of TV, but I wouldn't say I'm an addict...it's not like I sit and watch TV all night every night when I get home. Just as an experiment and a test for myself, I went without for a week last winter. It was very difficult, but I did it. It taught me to appreciate quiet. I'll never be without it for very long, but I have a built in excuse...I work in the entertainment industry, so keeping up with it is part of my job

I'd find it much harder to quit using the internet. There were only a couple shows I watched every week, and now I work those evenings anyway.
