    Default What is NaNoWriMo?

So friends had this posted on facebook and since I just started to dabble in writing I might just try it!

What is NaNoWriMo? | National Novel Writing Month

What: Writing one 50,000-word novel from scratch in a month's time.

Who: You! We can't do this unless we have some other people trying it as well. Let's write laughably awful yet lengthy prose together.

Why: The reasons are endless! To actively participate in one of our era's most enchanting art forms! To write without having to obsess over quality. To be able to make obscure references to passages from our novels at parties. To be able to mock real novelists who dawdle on and on, taking far longer than 30 days to produce their work.

When: You can sign up anytime to add your name to the roster and browse the forums. Writing begins November 1. To be added to the official list of winners, you must reach the 50,000-word mark by November 30 at midnight. Once your novel has been verified by our web-based team of robotic word counters, the partying begins.

I've been doing it since I was 13, but for some reason I can never really finish on time, I'm a huge procrastinator and I end up hating what I write and just quit.

Yeah I have a feeling I'm going to hate what I write. I did a "write for 30 minutes" thing last week and it was almost painful.

I can look at my sewing and know if it's good or bad. Writing is so subjecting, gah!

I think it is going to be very hard for me, I tend to put a lot of time and thought into each sentence I write, so it doesn't only contribute to the story, but have a meaning in itself. Which means rewording, adding, removing, etc.

So I have to lower my standards quite a bit, and shed the perfectionism, which is something I should learn to do anyway, so I see how it can be beneficial.

I've done it four years, won the last three.

Think I might not be participating this year because I have college applications to do
