Darn my friends for staying up late watching Rocky Horror with me! Now I have to write in daylight...depressing.

My 12 year old and 6 year old are doing it too. My 12 year old didn't start yet but my 6 year old's story is totally awesome. It involves queens, astronauts and princesses.

Barns feature prominently in my story. So, for a fun nano sort of challenge, I'm going to insert all the barn idioms I can. For example, "your barn door's open," "shutting the barn door after the horses have gotten out," etc. Shouldn't be too hard but I'm on the hunt for more. (Already found a few on the Wikipedia entry on barns.)

Wow...so both Mac and Haphazard have won these? I had no idea we were in the midst of such writers at all. Or just writers. And I say that totally not sarcastically. See how much more smoothly the phrase 'not sarcastically' goes compared to 'unsarcastically'?

Yeah, I'm tooooootally gonna win it this year.

    There is also this:

    NYC Midnight :: Filmmaking :: Screenwriting :: Animation :: Creative Writing ::

I kinda suspect they are just a group of random people with very good marketing and a good website and they get loads of money from entrants every year. But, it is a good writing excercise. You have 1 week and then if you make it to finals 24 hours to write a screenplay, short story, 'creative writing piece' etc.

I have managed to finish my story TWICE. That's right, TWICE out of X attempts to enter the contest.

Looking at this thread again this actually sounds like you might be interested. Are you doing it?

Oh, that's cool. I was trying to think of something to do like that.

I haven't read any NaNo novels, I think it would be interesting.

What a coincidence, I am too!

That screen play looks interesting, I've never thought about doing anything like that. I love trying new things though.

I'm still at 0, but I stayed up until 4 last night (despite the fact that I had to be up before 7), and created a world, with some backstory, politics, a few characters and a basic plot.
All of which may be a subject to change.

Looks like it's going to be a science fiction/crime/cyberpunk/etc. novel.

I'll get down to writing once I've finished the two essays I need to write for school.

I love chapter 1 but chapter 2 hates me. Already. I'm stuck!

I would do it, but it brings up depressing memories of an old friend that I'd rather try to forget.

    ^ That's sad.

Turns out that logging into yahoo while "writing" doesn't work all that well. That's a huge surprise!

Remember: long, drawn out sex scenes drastically increase word count!
