Any of you potheads know if Cannabis is legal in Vancouver? People didn't seem to care if you were smoking pot in public, and it seemed fairly common. Also, I walked passed one of these Cannabis coffeeshops Shimmy's talking about.

Your US based? I'd say you had bigger issues than simply the 2 party system (athough limiting)... the bigger issue is the conservative culture. Its the culture that doesn't foster progress.

Shimmy I'll come back to you tomorrow - it's a bit of a heavier subject

    Cannabis legalization in Canada

Apparently it's illegal, but decriminalized to some extend, and in Vancouver they aim to regulate it.

But don't you see? If you limit supply you'll totally curb demand! It's sooo simple!

    Ok Shimmy et al.

I read the link and had a think about it....

Hypothetically... if drugs were legalised (with or without regulartion) what probelms would it solve, and what problems woult it create....

    For ciggies...
    Provides a huge Tax revenue
Provides sales to corner shops and large retail (more money)
    Relaxes the smoker
Creates litter and coats rooms in goop
Burns carpets/soft furnishings in public spaces
Causes smoker a vast range of healthy problems
    Causes non smoke helath problmes
    Keeps tabbaco growers in income
Can causes very under privialged kids to shop lift/break the law in order to fund the habit
    Provides advertising revenue

    etc....

    So mixed impact.

Obviously. I very much hold the view that there is no "best" way, whatever you do, it will always have both negative and positive consequences. There are just different approaches to reach different goals, this is what I believe regardless of my own political opinion.

My political preferences, values and goals mainly coincide with those of Libertarianism. Meaning that individual people should be given as much freedom as possible. A governments only job is to set basic living conditions and provide safety for it's people. Everything else is best decided by the people themself. There's countless examples to prove this in general (fall of sovjet russia etc.) and for drugs in particular (the before mentioned cases of Argentina and Mexico).
