    Default Compliments

I'm very anti-proud and anti-self-loathing person nowadays, but some criticisms and compliments get to me.

I've felt very nice when people have complimented on my voice.

Last time someone asked if I'm a singer - he said I have a full, rich voice the like of an singer. He was in a group I had gathered for a small trip, invited by a singer friend of mine I had invited. He didn't know of me before, so I guess he genuinely thought I was a singer, too.

    But, it felt nice.

    What compliments have moved you?

When people have told me that I don't give up and that I'm persevering. Also when people have told me that I am a very just and fair person. Because those things are true.

A strange compliment i got was from my mum on Wednesday.

We were in her car eating a Chinese takeout and she said that she thought i was a stronger person than my younger brother (ESTP). Our relationships broke down at roughly the same time. I think i handled it worse than my brother, i was very close to a breakdown, don't get me wrong my brother was struggling for a time (he has young 2 kids also) and hit the bottle really bad. I always thought i was the weaker one of the pair of us. He has always had his shit together, whereas i have just always plodded, took the punches and dusted myself down.
Now i did disagree with my mum and said he was stronger.
It is funny how people perceive things differently.

Best compliment I had that really moved me?

When I worked at a pharmacy.. I remember this lady coming up to me saying, "You're always smiling.. If you ever decide to leave, I'll be really sad.."

    That really touched me.

I got the same compliments from other patients as well.. really made my day. I love them.

Other compliments.. are from people compliment me on my art.. they believe in me more than I believe in myself, even to the point of submitting my work in a juried exhibition w/o me knowing it. That was sweet.

I don't take compliments too well- those were ones that moved me most..

I think my two favorite compliments ever have been:

    "You're strangely fascinating"

    And

[In reference to me looking like a woman]"Yeah, you do. You'd be a pretty good looking one, too"

I've received a number that are more flattering or touching, though.

    "you're good at everything"
    "you're well rounded"
"you know a little about everything"

It's really flattering when you receive a compliment like this, but it also sets me up for dissapointment when I don't live up to other's expectations, not that I care that much about what others think.

The closest to a compliment I've gotten lately is, "Excuse me, miss... Oh! You're a man." It moved me, but I'm not sure to which end of the spectrum.

"You're so f*cking weird! Its fantastic!"
"You should be a writer. You're so good at it"
"I've forgotten what its like to be around someone so considerate"
"How on earth do you know that sort of sh*t?"

Well, those are the kind of compliments I like receiving - indirect compliments are my favourite. I just feel awkward when people say I look nice or whatever.
