Default What Tips Do You Have to Get to Sleep At Night?

I have insomnia and parasomnia and can't get to sleep and constantly awaken at night. I've tried special yoga stretches, warm non-sugared tea, going to sleep early, not taking naps during the day...everything I could think of to get to sleep. Even the whole "Count the sheep" thing.

I had a sleep test, but it was pointless because we then didn't have the money to treat anything, so I'm stuck like this until we can afford anything else. So I was wondering if anyone here had the same problem, and/or you have some tips on how to get to sleep.

I take 5-HTP and this product called De-Stress from Biotics Research. I took two of one and one of the other and that stuff would be in system for 24 hours.

White noise works well for me. I use a sound machine but it seems like overkill sometimes... you could just record your dryer or vacuum cleaner for a couple of hours and then play it back when you go to bed.

Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone that is stimulated by sun exposure. So basically, the more you go out in the sun, the easier it is for you to sleep because melatonin gets your sleep cycle going. You can also get some from a pharmacy, but why pay for it when you can get it for freeeeee

I'd also suggest some light ambient music. I always listen to the Lost In Translation Soundtrack because its perfect to get to sleep too. It's calm yet stimulating enough for me to slowly lull into a deep sleep...

    Lots of Ambien or Diphenhydramine.

Sometimes I read or listen to ambient electronica. Not focusing on falling asleep can help.

Also, concentrating on the vague shapes and colors you see when your eyes are closed can help you drift off into dream land. It's kind of like looking at the back of your eyelids. Sometimes I get very vivid flashes of imagery when I do this and it seems like the beginning of a dream, it's like I'm aware during the awake/sleep transfer.

    I'm not kidding about these:
    ----------------------------
    (1) Sex (masturbation is a close second)
    (2) Xanax (I am aleergic to Ambien)
    (3) Diphenhydramine)
    (4) A bodybuilding product called "Lean Dreams" by ALRI Research, really good stuff.
    (5) Turkey sandwich with provolone or Swiss cheese and a BIG glass of milk!
    (6) Melatonin is OK for me, hit or miss...

    Good luck!
