    Gene Wilder
    Kathy Griffin +++
    Dave Chappelle
    Paul Mooney (only comic I've paid to see live)
    Conan O'Brian
    Steven Colbert

    I think most comedians fail miserably. I also just don't "get" the humor of a lot of successful comedians. No way would I pay to watch them or even leave the TV on their show for more than 5 minutes in passing.

    I have to agree with CzeCze. My lists don't end up very big.

    But there are three I can think of, who have all been mentioned here already.

    Lewis Black.
    Steven Wright.
    Mitch Hedberg.

    Oddly, I don't think anyone said Jon Stewart or Woody Allen here.

    Black has to be way up there, though. He could very well be my favorite comedian.

    There are many, but I'll just say that I can't stand Dane Cook.

    Can't stand Dane Cook. It's like someone told a frat boy he was funny, and he never looked back.

    Eddie Izzard's probably my fave. Ricky Gervais does some great standup. I've watched both Patton Oswalt's and Mike Birbiglia's CC specials many, many times over. Same with Ted Alexandro. Kathy Griffin used to be one of my big favorites, but now she's gotten more vulgar than funny most of the time. Her first two Bravo specials were hilarious, though. Have never seen the appeal of Margaret Cho. Lisa Lampanelli is an abomination.

    Prefaced by the disclaimer that I don't spend much time watching comedians, but...

    Jim Gaffigan, Kathy Griffin, Jake Johansen, Sarah Silverman, etc.
    The Michael/Michael show's pretty funny too nowadays but it's not stand-up.
