It was somewhere toward the end of a 100 hour day when all crossed into the occupied country of Kuwait. Someone in another team asked permission from an FO (forward observer/Major) to call in an airstrike on what was definately an abandoned airfield. When a few of us approached close enough to assess, we found no casualties of any significant rank plus a whole lot of makeshift white cloth poised to be raised.

Reason that sucked (in hindsight) is because we did all that work/patrolling, some odd 3 days straight, only to have some frickin 22 year old intuitive Cpl make a case to take out a bunch of coerced kids/shiite/our age because there wasn't enough concrete/confirmed visual evidence out of curiousity maybe?.....Who knows, maybe the thought pattern of said Cpl lead him to believe there was republican guard in that mix. i do know this....another fella and i were closer and did (basically) put in a vote to cancel due to not being able to confirm an actual.

Please bear in mind, it was the worst day for everyone including said Cpl. When put into perspective, 2 days later we were trucked to a base in Saudi Arabia and a month later we flew back home on a continental.

This Cpl is not a bad fella. i intuitively know there isn't a day that goes by for him that he doesn't second guess anything he does everyday.
Remind me what STA is again. Is that Scout Sniper?

Very enlightened of you; you shame your ancestors, who apparently thought differently back in 1939.

The probability that I was procrastinating when I was typing this post:

    P(have big assignment due) = 0.6
    P(posting on TypoC) = 0.2
P(having big assignment due | posting on TypoC) = 0.7

P(posting on TypoC | having big assignment due) = .......

    Eh, I'll finish it later.

Actually if that flag was finlands flag id still want to pee on him, but not so badly. Because of your military actions you get bombed like nine eleven, so i dont think your military is keeping you guys safe, its doing the opposite.

Its bit different thing to defend your country when others are trying to invade it, than what ever the real reasons behind your current wars are.

My bad. Scout and target acquisition. A scout sniper is someone from a reconnaissance battalion. STA is part of admin in an infantry battalion. It's (more or less) security for an infantry battalions FO. But, in some cases, can be employed to scout targets for artillery and airstrikes. For the most part we supplied line battalion admin with potential target intel.
everyone uses every function about evenly. take NE for example. if there are those who don't use it much, then why are there such massive amounts of people constantly flowing through Wallmart with 20 items or less?

Without going into much detail, I'm of the opinion that the president sets policy and the military just gets told what to do. I'd expect that any anti-war sentiments should get lobbed at the president [or maybe his cabinet/advisors, and maybe congress], not the people who must do what they are told or else get sent to jail. The poster volunteers to go into harms way, that is what I was referring to. Most people don't potentially put there lives on the line for people they don't know.

Regardless of your beliefs concerning American motives (and if you think the war in Afghanistan was about anything other than 9/11 and terrorism, you're insane), America-and Finnish-military personal deserve respect for their service in defense of liberal democracies. If you have a problem with the means, take it out on the politicians who determine where they go.
