    Default Racial backgrounds?

I myself am biracial (even though I despise using that term.) My father is Italian-American and my mother is African-American. (So does that qualify me to be the next Barack Obama? Why yes, it does!

It'll be interesting to see what ethnic backgrounds some of you guys have!

I'm African American. Ive posted on different forums for a couple of years now and there seems to be this odd belief in the internet ether that everyone online is a white guy. Any discussion involving race is "No seriously, why cant I call blacks the N-word?". Anonymity makes people idiots (or more themselves ), I think.

Why would someone want to be the next Barack Obama?

I am one-half Irish (mother's side), and one-quarter Italian and one-quarter "American Mix" on my father's side. My dad's mom is from Southern Virginia, and her family has Scottish/Scots-Irish/English background. I am supposed to be 1/32nd or 1/64th Native American on her side, too. I generally identify with my Irish-American heritage, although my love of food and wine and women is quite Italian.

That's an interesting thought for a thread. I'm Irish, English, Scottish, with a dash of Mennonite German thrown in way back.

German (dad's side) and Spanish and Italian (mom's side). I have a little Ukrainian and Basque and other stuff thrown into the mix.
Often a star was waiting for you to notice it. A wave rolled toward you out of the distant past, or as you walked under an open window, a violin yielded itself to your hearing. All this was mission. But could you accomplish it? (Rilke)

Why do you despise using that term?

In no particular order, I'm Irish, Scots-Irish, Scottish, Welsh, English, Dutch, German, French, Portuguese, Cherokee...and God only knows what else.

I don't like using it, because of it and all it's political correctness glory.
