I think that is a pretty good idea. You know some dumb shit would still press 4even though it is at the side of 9. (yeah they would be going to the 8th floor)

    You misunderstand!

The buttons on the outside are labelled with a number.

On the inside they're just a switch and a wire leading to a panel.

I proposed to have the buttons remain in the same place. But now the wires lead to the wrong place. The button for 8 is still where one would expect to see 8, but the wire now leads to where the 5 used to plug in.

Switching the plastic covers around to make the numbers wrong (but the buttons right) would not have me worried about electrocution, but would lack the oomph to make it worthwhile.

Elevators are awkward because we enter a light trance in an elevator.

This means that some of our critical faculties go to sleep and some of our creative faculties wake up.

But the moment we leave the elevator, our critical faculties completely wake up. So it is just like we have had a little nap as we move between floors.

Each floor demands we make sense, but between floors it doesn't make all that much sense. Each floor may be different, but the elevator is always the same.
