Personally, I'll go for the mythological world
Steampunk offers a lot of mythology based ideas. Being a world with magick and much lore to explore!

I've done it with other friends, our approach there is a little different -- once you put something or someone into the story, it becomes fair game, and pretty much the idea is to build the most fun and interesting story possible while retaining as much coherency between posts as possible. Sometimes it's almost like people are fighting over the plot, it's sort of amusing.

I've always liked writing on the notion that the present world isn't what it really is. Fantasies that spiral from the humble beginnings of reality have always interested me, I would much assume read something completely origional then write on the pre-concieved medevial, post apocolyptic, etc etc worlds.

Well, the setting is pre-conceived. But culture, lore, anything. Is up to everyone to write as they see fit. And then it's just a game of trying to get it all to work together.

But I understand your point of view. You mean you start in the real world, but it turns out to be an elaborate hoax in which you are a mere prisoner of sorts, stuff like that?

Sort of, or just really any sort of crazy/amazing/supernatural events that transpire and forever alters the protagonist, or the protagonist's world, or stuff you'd find in psychological thrillers, etc.

Also not impossible to combine the any of the stories with that idea. And can make any story much like a psychological thriller from your characters point of view.

Build some bridges. Connect some dots. That is what it's all about.

I love writing, so I might be down.

It depends on the setting we choose, I hate medieval type things.
The probability that I was procrastinating when I was typing this post:

    P(have big assignment due) = 0.6
    P(posting on TypoC) = 0.2
P(having big assignment due | posting on TypoC) = 0.7

P(posting on TypoC | having big assignment due) = .......

    Eh, I'll finish it later.
