The main person who comes to mind for me is Dr. Horrible from Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Though in a certain sense it's less a matter of relating to Dr. Horrible and more a matter of relating to everything Joss Whedon does with his character (to the extent that such a distinction can be made).
The video below is just the first 7:27 of the first act. The whole thing is well worth watching though when you've got a spare 45 minutes (or three spare sets of 15 minutes - it's in acts that were initially released over the course of 5 days, iirc). You can watch it for free here, or on hulu.
Reactions seem to vary, but a couple of close friends of mine and I love it and can talk excitedly about it for long periods of time. Joss's work is brilliant and it brings out wonderful, deep resonances between people who love it and perceive its depths.
