Oh, now you're tempting me, Purple... I loved that show! Hated to see it canceled.

Yikes, I was surfing that one yesterday. If I wasn't hell bent right now on saving up for this very specific and very needful thing I would have ordered a whole bunch of them.

As it stands they are in my wish list for those days when control escapes me or I need a pick me up........which shouldn't be that far away actually, knowing me.

In my late 30's I managed to get scared into being better with money. Before that I wasn't too bad, but did have a habit of buying something small out of boredom. That can add up far more than one would expect. I never bought expensive things, but did get into the mental habit of using a new pair of cute pants as a pick me up.

When my financial situation became tight (and is still recovering) I got scared enough to quit spending anything. It helps to live out in the country where a trip to the store is a burden, and to simply never go to the online sites where I would like to buy something. My partner is good with money and is helping me learn more about it and to do better. Being willing to do better with money is important, and then to have a compelling external reason to change one's habits is important.

How "strategic" can one really be without becoming compulsive?

    Sorry.
Or maybe I am just using wrong words to express myself.

For example when I was a kid I didn't want any allowance. Even if my parents insisted. With time they have become worried that they are not doing enough for me. Especially since they have tryed to stimulate my emotions with material things.

So the relations between us developed i a way that I could get everythig I wanted. But since I am not a person which is a hedonist I have always got everything I wanted since I didn't asked much. But I have used this course of events to my advantage (carefully).

But they did not pay attention(actually they didn't care) that I am keeping some of the change so I got what I wanted plus I had some money on my own.

Plus I am not a compulsive buyer.
Even when it comes to small things.

I'm very good at saving up money--I have little need for material possessions. I'm also very good at dropping $50 bills in public and not realizing it.

I'm a penny pincher. I 'inherited' it from my grandparents. They were money saving freaks. Like they always bought meat that was about to spoil, bought fruit en mass when on sale then canned it, and my grandfather would dry used paper towels so that they could be used again. Weird as it may be, they adopted these habits from the Great Depression. But I'm not nearly as fanatic about it, every once in a great while I splurge on something...

I'm good at saving money and living below my means ... but I could be a lot better at managing my money. I suck at investing and tracking my finances. In true INTP fashion, the details get me down.
