    Our soon-to-be outdated beliefs

From Reddit, a question that yielded a number of thought provoking answers:

So many of our grandparents were racist, and some of our parents are homophobes. Which of our own closely held beliefs will our own children and grandchildren by appalled by?

Phil Dhingra collected some of his favorite answers.

    That drugs were illegal
    Eating meat
    Monogamy (or anti-polygamy)
    Imprisonment vs. rehabilitation
Thought this would make for an excellent argument conversation for you debating types.

My money is on imprisonment vs. rehabilitation AND drugs. "You mean you locked people away for years for smoking weed? What the hell, Dad?"
"Can you set me free from this dark inner world? Save me now, last beats in the soul.."

I just put it out there, as is.

What others can people think of?

    My guess, although I'm not sure this is a one-generation thing;

    1) Eating meat
    2) Polyamory
    3) Various things centered around being 'human' will cease to be special. I also think certain new fields (economics, social sciences) will begin to take form, so combined with the concept of human 'fading', I suspect new religions/beliefs around transhumanism will be strong... and quite possibly engineered.

We're in an age where cliques are forming that hold mutual respect for each other. Beliefs will be plentiful in a few generations, but none will be standard.

I believe (and strongly hope) that these beliefs will be outdated some time in the next few generations.

The speed at which the idea of "illegal drugs" is outdated will probably depend upon the switch from imprisonment to rehabilitation to some degree.

The most important thing for eating meat to become outdated is probably how fast we develop those tasty synthetic alternatives.

Monogamy will probably be the trickiest. This will most likely just take time, probably several generations.

Here's the general roadmap, now all we need to deal with is those politicians, who we will probably need to replace with robots sometime in the 21st century

    Heh. I don't.

But then again, I won't be around in "generations" so it won't be my problem.

So wait. People will be able to smoke crack and freely cheat on their partners but it will be considered sick to eat meat?

Frankly, I'd prefer to give up meat than live with infidelity and people around f*cking up their lives with drugs. I've seen this happen too much as it is.
