Default When has absent-mindedness costed you?

Last day before college, just did laundry. Normally I am very careful to check the pockets of my pants. And I thought I was today as well. But I forget to check the jeans that I had worn today and ended up getting my cell phone and wallet washed.

Oh well, no emoticon from me. Do you guys have any absent-minded horror stories?

I missed a physics final once (last year), because of some schedule confusion. I had three finals in the beginning of the week, and the physics one on Friday of the week. I had gotten confused in terms of A.M. or P.M. early in the week, and was also unsure about times, so checked them many, many times to make sure. After doing the first three finals, I figured that since I had the correct times for the first three, I had the correct time for the physics as well. however, I had mixed up the time of day it was, end ended up realizing this about 2/3 into the final.

Fortunately, there was a conflict final the next day which I was able to take.

I don't want to think about it. It's too depressing.
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

I'd rather not think about it. No doubt my absent-mindedness has sent little ripples through everyone's lives and it may have crescendoed into someone I don't even know dying or killing somebody in frustration.

P.S. In response to the OP, that REALLY sucks. Was your wallet ruined? Good thing money doesn't dissolve.

I went swimming with my cell phone in the pocket of my pants for an hour. I just spontaneously decided to jump in a friend's pool, after removing other articles that I didn't want to wet, but somehow forgot about my phone.

I know the rent is in arrears
The dog has not been fed in years
It's even worse than it appears
    But it's all right.

    Cows giving kerosene
    Kid can't read at seventeen
The words he knows are all obscene
    But it's all right

I will get by / I will get by
I will get by / I will survive

The shoe is on the hand it fits
There's really nothing much to it
Whistle through your teeth and spit
    Cause it's all right.

Oh well a Touch Of Grey
    Kind of suits you anyway.
That was all I had to say
    It's all right.

I will get by / I will get by
I will get by / I will survive
We will get by / We will get by
We will get by / We will survive
