Some cultures really are better than others.
Wow, are you serious? Who decided whose cultures are the "better" ones? The "better" cultures I bet. :rolli:
Relationships have normal ebbs and flows. They do not automatically get better and better when the participants learn more and more about each other. Instead, the participants have to work through the tensions of the relationship (the dialectic) while they learn and group themselves and a parties in a relationships. At times the relationships is very open and sharing. Other time, one or both parties to the relationship need their space, or have other concerns, and the relationship is less open. The theory posits that these cycles occur throughout the life of the relationship as the persons try to balance their needs for privacy and open relationship.

Wasn't a direct reference to you Oberon, I think I've gained the impression from other threads that you're no cultural relativist. I just felt the theme was emerging in the thread.

Edit In an effort to avoid being roped into a derail, I was making the point that I do not believe Sona represents another culture. I think he's a troll. So the point is not to say "cultural relativism is wrong", but rather to say "Sona is not an example of where the argument for cultural relativism should be applied, in my opinion"

I'm with Oberon on this one, some cultures are better than others, a nation that commits FGM, acid scarring attacks, child brides, and sharia law deserves to be condemned.

No, the masochistic and codependent cultures are very happy to describe how much better the rest of the world is.

We were talking about how much Sona sucks. Let's not lose sight of this thread's true purpose!
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."
