Red face Are you afraid of water?

Are you nervous around or afraid of water? Do you love it? I wonder if this is type-related.

If you're especially afraid, why? An early trauma? Have you never learned to swim? Or, can you swim, there was no trauma, you just hate the water?!

You afraid of water? Aww, poor baby.

... I love water, and enjoy swimming. Used to be afraid of deep end water when I was younger in junior school, but got over it eventually.

I LOVE WATER! I love to swim. And...water's my favourite drink.

I almost drowned when I was 3 years old, at my grandparents home, because there is a pond nearby, and I somehow escaped I guess, chasing ducklings. The housemaid was walking by when she saw, and dove down to get me out.

I was also taught to swim by my older cousins, by being thrown in the same pond (where you can't see the bottom), at the deep end, and told about (supposed) eels that get your feet the closer you get to the bottom of the water, and, as a reaction to drowning/trying not to hit the bottom, I learned to swim. Within 1 day. I was 6 or 7.

    And...I love it!

(caveat: not that I think anyone would be psycho enough like my cuz, but...please do not try this at home to get kids to learn swimming. I am weird in that I usually enjoy/really end up liking, things that have come out in my life through high-stress situations. I learn slower if it's not high-stress...dunno.)

I certainly don't hate the water. I would live in the shower if I could (Kramer may have been on to something). I do get a sense of something like vertigo on the open ocean, however. Being situated in a very large body of water with no shore in sight makes me a bit nervous. It may not actually be the water though, being out in the desert with no water in sight evokes a very similar response.

NT - nervous/indifferent to the water (explain)

    Indifferent.

I don't mind swimming, snorkling or whatever on a hot day, but I am not drawn to it. I will do other things just as well. I'm not afraid of water. But don't particularly enjoy myself there as well, not more then I'd enjoy myself anywhere else.

When I was younger I liked being underwater quite a lot and used to sit down in the corners of pools for 1-2 minutes, get some air, and go back to the bottom again. And just watch people play in the pool. :P

I do have times I've been a little bit nervous of certain parts I've swam in. In Aruba I snorkled around a reef that was filled with all kinds of venomous watersnakes (Absolutely harmless unless you step on them or something.) and huge ass moray's (Eel like creatures with lots of teeth and extremely large jaws and strength). I kinda liked it, because I knew they are harmless as long as you don't mess with them, but did feel a bit vulnerable and was very careful. :P

    Whaaa??? Haha...

Edit: although this explains my ENTJ mother-in-law-to-be's approach with me all the time. Very motherly and with an assumption she gets exactly where I'm coming from but is usually/always way off. But I love her! ENTJ's are like the best bears in the forest.

SJ, and the only water I am afraid of is the tap water here in L.A. I like to drink water all the time, and the stuff here is just gross.
