everyone uses every function about evenly. take NE for example. if there are those who don't use it much, then why are there such massive amounts of people constantly flowing through Wallmart with 20 items or less?

Hmmmm, I don't carry a purse, just a not-so-sexy, but extremely practical, waterproof Timbuk2 bag. The contents of which are at any given time:

    A couple of spiral notebooks
    A couple of pocket folders
2-3 books (depending on the day)
Pencil case containing way too many pencils, a red pen, and a highlighter
    A thumb drive
    A Kinko's copy card
    A black beanie
    Gloves
Bandaids (I walk everywhere during the week)
    A comb
    Fresh Sugar lip treatment
    Mascara
A sample-size eyeliner (not sure why either this or the mascara are still in there, I have yet to actually reapply makeup during the day)
    Anti-bacterial wipes
    Excedrin
Ear buds (so I can at least pretend to be listening to something)
    Gum
    Some barettes
    loose change
    "chick stuff"

My wallet and phone are in my pockets right now, they'll resume their positions in the front pocket of the aforementioned bag tomorrow morning.

Why are you guys carrying all this crap on your person? This is like how Mormons store a year's worth of food in their homes.

I do that too and I'm not Mormon.
I like to rock n' roll all night and *part* of every day. I usually have errands... I can only rock from like 1-3.

I try to stay as light as I can. Driver's license, debit card, cash, and health and dental insurance cards. I have a lot more than that, but I don't need to take that crap everywhere I go. My wallet is also velcro, thin, and light-weight, and I can show my ID without taking it out. It's more like a butt-patch.

There are only two things in my bag that I don't need with me (already acknowledged in the post). The rest of it, tools of the trade. I leave early and sometimes don't get home until late, and I'm on foot so everything in that bag is necessary.

Many times I even forget my wallet. I even went out of town once and left my wallet at home. My friend had to pay for everything. Totally sensotarded.

Hmm...currently using just a backpack as a purse seeing as my bag broke and the only other thing I have is a clutch that's only really good for going out. There's usually more stuff in it.

I always make sure to have

    1. keys
    2. cell phone
    3. wallet (cards (ID, credit, insurance etc.)+cash)

    the rest is optional

    Currently:

free lipbalm I got at a ski resort
boutique card "we're bringing pretty back"
    old grocery shopping list x2
    receipt x4
    granola bar wrapper
    10 Canadian cent x3
    unidentifiable bit of tin foil
    expandable umbrella
    sunglasses

Yup, my backpack is mostly a dustbin - that's ok, I took this opportunity to clean it out.
