Yeah I do that, just reset the odo every time out of curiosity,

I get about 23 in the city and up to 30 on the highway ;p
    An experiment in typology...

Yes I do actually. On longer drives, I will entertain myself by estimating fuel mileage for this tank compared to the last, for premium vs regular gasoline, highway vs city driving etc.

One spring I did an experiment where I used a higher octane fuel for 6 tankfuls and calculated how much that improved my mileage (excluding the first tankful in order to minimize octane contamination.)

For my particular vehicle, it improved my mileage by approx 3%. Not enough to warrant the extra expense.

    Ya. Go figure.

I think I do it because I like numbers, couldn't remember what it was the last time and I keep expecting it to get better but technically I wouldn't notice cause I never remember what it is.
    I check mine every time.
I check to see what my mpg is.
I got 20 mpg for like 4 years, then it suddenly started dropping down around 17-18. I got a tune up that cost a few hundred dollars, and it seemed to improve a little. Not sure what to try next.
But anyway, I would never have known my mpg was dropping, if I didn't regularly keep track of it.

Yup, I do it by tracking KM traveled each fill up, then throw it into an excel spreadsheet. Works well.

To answer the question, I don't drive enough to care.

Most newer cars will do it for you.

I did the thinking part on the front end to get it out of the way -- I bought a car that's supposed to get decent mileage, I'm religious about maintenance, and I drive as seldom as possible. That's as far as I can keep my mind on such a thing.
