While you're in college, you must have at least one traditional spring break type of vacation experience (you'll never have the chance again), so I suggest either Baja or Miami.

It's snuggled right at the base of the Rocky Mountains, so access to the mountains can be attainable by walking. There's always something to do- rock climb, hike in the mountains, swim, ski, bike, or whatever you want to do. Boulder is home to a really cool race of people- very adventuresome and outdoorsy and the culture is unique and blooming. There's an awesome outdoor mall running through the streets that has some of the coolest shops you can possibly find.

Here's a picture of Pearl Street Mall-
Sounds pretty cool, I'll look into it.

That pic reminds me of Church street in Burlington, VT

I've gone to Montreal with a group of college guys I didn't know so well on a whim. It sucked.

All they wanted to do was go to strip clubs -I had never been in one before, so it was cool for about 20 minutes, then I got bored. The strippers kept hassling me so I hassled back by trying to bargain them down to a half price lap dance.

They left me alone after that.

What I really wanted to do was go to a REAL club, where there are, y'know, girls that want to dance for fun? Something about dancing with a girl who actually want to dance with you because she wants too is fun. Alas, the guys I were with were all slobs. I got into the club but they didn't. I should have just ditched them. Why didn't I ditch them? *sigh*

On the plus side, Molson 10.1 = awesome.

When we went back across the border into the US the guard asked us "how was sin city?" It is the Las Vegas of the NE.

LV sounds cool, but is it expensive?

I would happily stay in a fleabag motel on the outskirts.

Mexico is perfectly ok to go to... the drug war is between people that are involved with it. they don't care about tourists, only people involved with drugs are getting killed.

Technically, I'm not in college anymore, but I get what you're saying.

Baja isn't what it used to be - less tourists now cause of the drug war.

Tijuana tourism plunges amid drug violence

Visits are down 90% since 2005, when an estimated 4.5 million came to the area, according to the downtown merchants association. On an average day now, only about 150 tourists show up, the association says.
This makes me want to go more, for some reason.

Miami is also on my list of potentials.

Yep. From that same article ^(above)^

Still, the negative image hangs over the city. "In reality, the violence isn't targeting tourists. It's between drug traffickers, criminals and police. But the tourist doesn't know the difference," said Victor Clark Alfaro, director of Tijuana's Bi-National Center for Human Rights.

I'm not sure I'd recommend Vegas if you're not 21 'cause they'll card you for everything there. You also won't be able to stay in any of the casino hotels. There are some decent cheap hotels off the strip (especially on the Boulder Highway), but it'll be a bitch to get anywhere if you don't have a car. There's also a hostel at the north end of the Strip, but I haven't stayed there yet so I have no idea how nice it is - HI - Hostel HI - Las Vegas Youth Hostel.

Baja sounds cool. I went to TJ and Rosarito a few times with some co-workers and never had any problems. It's been a couple of years since I've been, though, so I don't know how much it's changed lately. As long as you stay in the touristy areas, you should be fine.

Oh, I was going to say Vegas too but yeah, if you're under 21 I kind of don't see the point. And I've heard that in the US they're generally very strict about carding people.

This sucks. Montreal has awesome nightlife - probably the best city I've ever lived in for it, and I've lived in London and a few other places. I sometimes want to tell all the US college students that they're missing out but at the same time I understand that they're sort of intent on going buckwild in the bars/stripclubs simply because they *can* here (legally, I mean). If you pop up here again, head to St Laurent street in the Plateau neighbourhood, not downtown.
