Default Help me create a musical library of creative inspiration!

I want to build up a good playlist that I can listen to whilst I am writing. I find that instrumental pieces with absolutely no singing in it helps.

Things that inspire scenes, draw out emotions, that contain passion and beauty........so far I listen to the gladiator soundtrack and the braveheart soundtrack (not very cultured in classical music although I like it) and they inspire me no end.

I love the journey my mind takes whilst the music creates landscapes in my mind, I've written some really moving stuff whilst caught in the throes of a particularly passionate piece.

Pan pipe music, oriental instruments, basically anything that matches the mood I am trying to create.

    Any suggestions?

Here are some pieces that I enjoy. Some are contemporary, others orchestral:

    John Cale - Piano
    Alone in Kyoto - Air
    Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2
    Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 - Yo-Yo Ma
    Raymond Scott - Powerhouse

Thomas Newman - Any Other Name
    NIN - La Mer
    Arcade Fire - Intervention
Scott Joplin - Maple Leaf Rag
Miles Davis - It Never Entered My Mind
The Rain Falls and the Sky Shudders - Moby

If there's a certain genre of classical music you enjoy (or a particular composer), I'd be happy to offer my personal recommendations.

Dream Theater : Scenes From A Memory, the entire album.

Not mostly instrumental but very atmospheric.
