You're lucky to be able to go on that type of thing. Have fun!

It's not luck. It is lack of planning combined with my reluctance to commit myself to a long-time boring jobs. The producer-director lost the cameraman some months before the trip and had hard time finding anyone who hadn't got plans for the six months and knows something about how to operate a camera...

Yeah... I heard some similar stories. I'm not rejecting anything. Well, I might not eat dog in China... some of them are beaten to death to get them juiced up with adrenalin.

Good advices... I basically trust the producer to take care of these things, though. I am going to keep some stash of cash hidden somewhere and probably find out the phone numbers for Finnish embassies.

Well, there is only one "Stay away". Shrugs are plentiful, but a shrug can really mean many things, not necessarily negative.

And Kazakhstan for that matter. But it's good that you're going as a group.

Why? Only thing I read was that there are some minor conflicts between the russians and the rest of the population.

    Good.

Islam Karimov is a nut case.

They don't like journalists there. Even Finnish ones.

I don't think Russians ever have minor conflicts.

I wouldn't think Kazakhstan would be that bad. As Central Asian countries go it's relatively prosperous and they're on relatively good terms with most of the world's major powers (thanks to oil).

Damn, this is the kind of "deployment" I'd like to go on. Have fun, be safe, get back to us when you're done.

I think we will be telling the police and border guards that it is a tourist trip. I'm more worried about China than the rest of the countries. They sensor so much that it might be hard to get in with our equipment...

They are just the minority in Kazakhstan. It isn't like official Russian government thing. I don't doubt that the Russian government keeps an eye on them, though...

Drugs too. I think it's one of the biggest routes for drugs. So there might be some mafia...
