It might be since so many of our politicians also happen to be lawyers. I know very few people who think much of ambulance chasers.

    Actually, it's about the retainer.

Politicians- they seem very uptight to me, but I'm making a judgement because I don't know a lot of Politicians...
Is it that by its indefiniteness it shadows forth the heartless voids and immensities of the universe, and thus stabs us from behind with the thought of annihilation, when beholding the white depths of the milky way?

Seriously though, I think politicians are more hated. If you don't hate the democrats, you probably hate the republicans. If you don't hate the republicans, you probably hate the democrats.

lawyers and politicians are essentially representatives of people. they enable or act upon the desires of people. so, in one sense when we say we hate politicians or lawyers we're saying that we hate the litigious or populist nature of our fellow man and all entailing characteristics that occur when one operates in such arenas.

of course, it's easy to hate both until you are in need of one or the other.

that being said, i definitely think politicians are capable of more evil solely based on the breadth of their influence.

Politicians because we can directly blame their policies for the mess our country is in. They have the power, and I know their hands are often tied, but if they follow policies that 50% or more of the country don't believe in, they will be hated. They affect our daily lives more than lawyers (whose hands are actually often tied by politicians' policies, incidentally).

Politicians, most definitely. It is difficult to identify what value they truly add to the process. They haven't said anything that isn't politically correct doublespeak for decades. They are simply a face that represents special interest, and not representatives of their constituents.

Lawyers do have utility. In the most litigious society in the world most good men and women will at some point in their lives need a lawyer. The amount of money you pay a lawyer to prevent the system from making you one of its bitches can save you considerable pain and suffering. Sure, when one is trying to sue you or prosecute you they seem like the devil. But when one represents you they are guarding your interests, and that is of great utility in this world, considering anyone who represents themselves in a court of law has a fool for a client.

Lawyers are just out to make money. As long as you keep this in mind, you know what to expect from them.

Politicians are usually after power and influence, as well as the money. So they are more unpredictable, and potentially more universally threatening to you.

    So, I say politicians.
