Hm. I don't want them to lower the standards because they can't keep up with the influx of bad behavior. I don't want an exception just because my sister did something wrong, and other people got away with it.

I just want it to where when someone calls my dad a "Dumb fat cracker bastard", or when they (an exact quote from a report) "started a fight with another student, and refused to listen to driver or AP when AP showed up, and called another student a nigger." that the response to this isn't "Warning administered Parent notifyed [sic]" while the standard is being upheld when it comes to easier targets.

The privilage of colorguard taken away should have the same weight as the privilage of transportation. I mentioned how it keeps her out of trouble because both are significant.

Sounds ridiculous, I bet the principal only suspended her for the sake of suspeding someone; it makes you look big and bad, like you know what your doing. I mean come on, the teacher probably swears too, and must understand from a 9th grade girl, it's not uncommon. If it were like a 3rd grade girl, a punishement might be necessary, but definitely not a suspension, that's insane.
Is it that by its indefiniteness it shadows forth the heartless voids and immensities of the universe, and thus stabs us from behind with the thought of annihilation, when beholding the white depths of the milky way?

Again, I would say that it's more about the disrespect toward the teacher than the word in isolation. You have to look at it in context. If she were to walk into class and say, "the sky looked bitchy today," I doubt she would have been suspended.

^ This is why I agree that she was punished.. I just feel like we're taken as "easy" targets when it comes to things like this in comparison to a bus environment. It doesn't make much sense to me, to have anything offered for students as a privilage, and not have any standards to uphold for said privilage.

I just can't see anything but good coming out of this.

It's character-building. Friction shines the gemstone!

In 5th grade I was in trouble for something I didn't do (I'm sure it had to do with homework or attention, i was never an attitude child). My parents came to the school and made a big stink. Basically the teacher told them about how I had messed up a buncha times before that and didn't get into trouble. I really couldn't argue either. He explained that even if he was a little off on this one it was something he had let slide for a while. My parents always were a little slower to "side with us" when something happened at school.

I have to say, if you really want your sister to learn something it's not going to help by you excusing her for other reasons. She was wrong, she pays. End of story. It doesn't matter what else is going on. I'm not sure being up in arms about it is going to help her.

Calling a teacher bitchy is never going to go over well. I agree with works.

Tell you what. I'll let you in on a little secret of how to piss of your teachers and not get in trouble. Be overly polite. American society (I'm assuming American since Kyuuei is from Texas) has a specific set of politeness rules and strategies. (See Grice or Brown and Levinson). The more politeness indicators we use in our interactions, the most interpersonal distance we are conveying with one another. This is why we are often very casual with our friends and drop things like please and thank you. The less we know someone, or the more distance we are from them, the more politeness strategies we use. Ever watch two women who hate each other interact? Their every word is dripping with excess politeness. In any case, flaunt the rules of politeness, but don't be sarcastic. This may be a fine line to walk. The teacher will be pissed off without knowing why (unless they have a linguistics background) and your sister won't be suspended.

..Okay.. I'm going to start ignoring posts about my sister herself. She was an example used. I think I've stated like 50 times how I agree with the punishment, and never claimed her to be a star student in the first place. If my initial words did not convey this, I apologize, please read through the entire thread before posting.

I was more looking for opinions on if anyone else has seen a severe lack of integrity when it comes to upholding the code of conduct in any situation outside of the actual classroom (in hallways, on school property, on buses, etc.) where the code SHOULD be upheld but isn't at all.

I was asking because we were thinking of going to the press about this. The safety of a student, and their behavior, should be upheld on EVERYTHING the school is involved in and allows to handle their children. To respond to Hexis: This is what we had in mind on doing to solve the problem. Mayhap we were not the first to report this, and if it's a growing problem than something may be done about it (often I see a lot of things resolved through the 11 news defenders.) And showing light on some of the darker parts causes the school to react the way they should be the entire time. Going after easy targets to me is the same as bullying. You look better just because you do what you're suppose to half the time.. this, to me, is not the right way to see things.

Hahaha!! I never really noticed it, but you're SO right! I am ALWAYS really polite, especially in situations where I am often offended or feel anger/irritation towards. I'm not one to get really crazy with the language when it comes to things that piss me off until I am in a 'safe' place to vent.
