haha! this was the first thing that crossed my mind when i saw this thread.

    anyway

an ideal man would cook, clean, iron my shirts, and polish my shoes... and stay silent and out of sight... and be grateful for the purposeful tasks i have assigned. i'll accept applications and start a sign up sheet for tryouts in another thread.

an entirely subjective question if you are not speaking anatomically... this is my personal ideal--a man is defined by his responsibility to make and enforce the right decisions. of course there are exceptions, but i think a man needs to be the example of integrity and strength, for himself and any others who grant him leadership. this requires a balance between firmness with perception, and respect for whatever power of control others have afforded him.

it is the difficult balance required that i would guess results in these sort men being a rarity, it is easy to be respectful if you exhibit no strength over others ("nice guys") and it is easy to be dominant if you are not considerate and ignore the fact that it is others' choice whether or not to submit to you ("assholes"). a man should make a reality of his role while acknowledging those who have allowed it, bold but not ignorant, selfless but not weak, and always driven by internal principles while remaining sensitive to the needs (there is a difference between needs and wants) of others.

    What makes a man?

So far no one's described me in any way I enjoyed reading. It all sounds a little too like comparing me to some third person.

So I believe I shall make my own definition, and I'm guessing it'll sound rather like as I am already.

I may make reference to cock rings.

    Signed,

    One hairless ape.

Responsibility. Engaging thoughtfully with your situation in the world in order to fully develop your self. If you can "be" this fully engaged human, an observant and proactive being without regard to the opinions of others you may deal with any situation. You can react responsibly to create and then husband that creation to it's productive end.

Of course they say clothes make the man...and seeing is believing...

Also I once read that a man's strength is in his pride and a woman's in her chastity....I suppose that means the controlling of those commodities....

This thread is kind of stupid.
If you're a man you don't have to WONDER ABOUT IT.

The moment you start, you probably aren't.

    and have a nice day.

The Big Lebowski: What makes a man, Mr. Lebowski?
    The Dude: Dude.
    The Big Lebowski: Huh?
The Dude: Uhh... I don't know sir.
The Big Lebowski: Is it being prepared to do the right thing, whatever the cost? Isn't that what makes a man?
The Dude: Hmmm... Sure, that and a pair of testicles.

I can't believe someone hasn't mentioned ANTLERS yet. That's obviously the most important requirement.
