Default Cool and Unusual Board Games

    Geoff has inspired this thread.

Does anyone have cool and unusual baord games that they like to play?
My hubby has Talisman, Cosmic Encounters and Settlers of Catan to name a few.
Talisman is an adventure board game with a d&d flavor to it.
Cosmic Encounters is a a board game that was the inspiration for Magic the Gathering
Settlers of Catan is a little like Civ I guess you would say? A very simple resource building, expanding and trading board game.

    Anyone ever played those?
    What about you guys?
What unusual games do you have and like to play?
Me and hubby made an RPG Nutrition Game

All of them, at least ten-fifteen years ago...

I used to play Diplomacy, sometimes. I'd say it's a board game made for extroverts, since it's about talks, negociations and how you deal with permanent stress.

I was always a definite fan of playing Bang! in college... something about killing off your friends one by one is somewhat delightful. I'm not quite sure if it fully counts as a board game though.

    Carcassonne.

I also played the unfortunately short lived Dream Blade.

But there's all kinds of other stuff. I really like board games.

I LOVE DIPLOMACY! I used to play it a lot with groups of friends. There were I types in there (mostly INTx) who loved it, but the ENTJ dominated (as would be expected )

And this isn't a board game, but I really like Munchkin.

    Oh, hell. Somehow I forgot.

RoboRally! That's one of the best boardgames ever made.

    I also like Nexus Ops.

I used to love playing Stratego as a kid, although it favors the defensive stance. I often thought it would be fun to come up with a version of the game that allowed for more than two players at once. Looking over some of the links that Blackmail's links led me to ( such as BoardgameGeek and Rio Grande - cool ) I see that people have updated the Stratego game in several ways. Hmmm.

Ever since various people ( Ivy and Rajah, I think ) told me about different word oriented games, I have wanted to try them. ( Nowadays the trick is having others to play them with you, versus finding the games per se. ) Although I like words, I have never done well at Scrabble or enjoyed it, but I really like Password.

Based on this vague info, what games would you gamer nuts recommend for me ? I have heard about Diplomacy and Balderdash, but haven't played them. ( I can't remember which one it was that Ivy and I had fixated on, after she recommended it to me back when we first met. )
