Got some really cool stuff this year--my sister got me Wii Fit, and then she won a Guitar Hero bundle in an online contest, so I got that, too. My friend Jess got me the Black Books complete series dvds, yay!!! And i got an awesome black on black guitar strap from another friend. And my parents got me the Addams Family complete series, too.

    I purchased a Nikon D90 and a 50mm f/1.4 lens for myself

And received a copy of Planet Earth on Blu-Ray. Wonderful stuff.
    Whoops.

    What I got for Christmas:

Sunny day (even though rain was predicted)

Stollen (Christmas bread with marzipan) from the neighbors

Paid day off from work tomorrow (I don't work Thursdays) and all next week off; also an office party at a nice restaurant last week and a bonus

Good health - no one is sick this December for a change

Christmas dinner with my husband's brothers and cousins (projected, but it's always nice)

Knitted muffler from library school partner

    For Hanukkah:

Songs in the Key of Hanukkah by Evan Baron Cohen

Check from my mom, as well as delicious chocolate bark

Love of family and friends who send cards, make treats, invite us to parties

If I had to add anything, it would be a relaxing soak under the stars in a warm pool in Calistoga. Time to make a reservation for January

Generally, it's a mutually dissatisfying exchange of items that serves to illuminate exactly how little the giver/recipient truly understand each other.

I usually cop out and give my brother a bottle of booze. This year, however, I was going to give him one of the two original surviving ornaments from our childhood Christmas trees, along with a vintage Glorite "Glo-rius Angel" (as featured in LIFE magazine) that is a sister to the one crowning those remembered trees.

However, (see below) that just ain't happening.

I like really like knives but now you're just scaring me.

Still, it reminds me of the claw knife in a leather boot sheath my son found a year or so ago on a Saturday morning. I suspect someone may have found themselves at an unexpected disadvantage the prior evening.

But Christmas. Right. It is still Christmas.

My brother and family were to come down today but the PNW is experiencing an unusual cold period and they're snowed in. Thus, my unusual frequent posting- nothing worse than a bored INTP.

Seriously, I cleared my calendar for this.

So... all I've gotten this year is a call from my son (who is is in now living back in Bangor, Maine) and a box of chocolates from Drs. Carter and White with a thank you card. The card, in which Dr. Carter expresses his appreciation for my willingness to deal with his last minute emergencies, is a keeper.

A Nintendo DS, Spore, and some pocket Kleenex. Not too bad. Oh, and a few cards with money in them. Haven't added up the cash and gift cards yet.

EDIT: $95 dollars in gift cards/cash, and two more Nintendo DS games.

A pea coat and some other "teacher wear" since I have very little professional clothing.

A Garmin GPS -- very nice, although I almost see the acceptance of this gift as an admission of my directional failure. It will be nice though since I have to drive all over the city for my job and school...and I usually have no idea where I'm going. I have a feeling that it will end up as a communal family gift until I move out.
