Mine apparently means either "God beholds" or "God's grace" .. something to that effect.

The name was invented by Shakespeare for the daughter of a Jewish merchant in 'The Merchant of Venice'.

The origin seems appropriate, however, the meaning..

gift from God is the meaning of my given first name. the name I changed it to means exactly the same thing, just a different variation of John.

According to different websites, your name doesn't have any other meaning than the star, the celestial body. Great name

Weird, I'd never known this... checked just now and was like whaaa it has a meaning!?

I'd actually always just thought it was an alternate spelling of "Katrice"

Meaning: Its source is Aikaterine, a Greek name meaning "Pure."

    Alternative Spellings: Catreece

Popularity: The name Catrice ranked 4258th in popularity for females of all ages in a sample of the 1990 US Census.

Though this name appears on the 1990 U.S. Census lists, it is used by only a small percentage of the general population.

Narrative: This meaning assumes the source name was derived from the Greek term katharos. However, it may have evolved from Hecate, the name of the Greek goddess of magic. Another possible source is katatein, the Greek word for torture.

All three meanings might have been associated with St. Aikaterine (Katherine) of Alexandria, who was born a pagan but died as a Christian martyr.

That being said, I <3 Hecate. Also torture's kinda weird but may slightly make sense too.

Either way, it's interesting, I actually learned something wewts.

EDIT: Oops forgot to actually LIST my name XD It's actually the alternate spelling of whot's listed, Catreece.
