What is it that makes some vehicles to be considered "girl" cars?
Here is the story. My MIL was trying to sell her Mazda Miata a few years ago. She lives in a smaller town and wasn't having any callers so she asked me to drive it to work for a week since I am in a larger city. What can I say? That car was fun! It was like driving around in a go kart. Every time I joke about getting one, friends and coworkers tease me about it being a girl car. I tried different arguments: It is now called a MX-5 instead of Miata (thought maybe the name was feminate), I showed pictures of the Mazda racing series with the cars with roll bars, I compared it to an MG (which is considered a guy car for some reason).
So why? Is it the marketing that has done it's job and the masses have accepted it in a certain role? What is the commom factor in some other cars that are considered girl cars and the Miata? Some others that I can think of are the new VW Beetle and the VW Cabriolet.
