Happy birthday man! Are going out and getting drunk?

Hope it's been a good one!

I am not a big drinker(only a handful of times), and I didn't plan on getting drunk. But I had 13 drinks and was feeling alright, but then my friend's boyfriend gave me another 6 drinks within half an hour. Not smart.

I guess I agree that they're stupid in the sense of not being productive... but I think what you're missing is that they're not supposed to have a point. It's supposed to provide an easy and effective (if ultimately superficial and pointless) way to show appreciation for a member.

Perhaps a seperate subforum should be created for these, though, since we have so many of them. And then people who don't like them could "opt-out" of viewing them.
I don't mind that much, just amused at this need to hand out tokens of appreciation.

I'm thinking about it too much, but that's the funny thing -- it's so natural to do things like this, for most people, that there has to be some biological explanation behind it.

I scratch your back, you scratch mine sorta thing.

I think you'll find most just see it as another obligation.

And it's a little fun receiving empty praise and being recognized for basically breathing for a number of years.

Because empty praise is nothing but attention.

    And attention is good.

Ah... it's important to secure your cohesion with the tribe by offering your attention to its members... in hope that in turn they do the same... and you are thus never left to starve.
