You know when you decided to take up photography, did you feel you had to know everything before you started, or did you just go for it?

See I have this stupid hinderance to trying new things out, and that is that I feel I have to know it all in order to do it well, and it really holds me back from just trying things.
I didnt know anything, I just went and took pictures, read some magazines. If you look at some of the pictures I've taken (cf some of the threads here) you'll see I'm pretty decent nowadays (modesty aside). You wouldn't have said that if you'd seen my earliest efforts.

The hinderance is mostly self-doubt and perfection anxiety, I suspect. Just learn to ignore them and go play

Yes, i have seen some of your pics, they are good from what i remember.

Ok, one last question about photography, would you recommend I buy any particular camera to start off with or should I just use my standard digital camera for now? as I have always wanted to have a go at it.

Lol there goes my perfection anxiety again.

Learn the basics with what you have, then worry about adding on the complexity of interchangeable body and lenses if you decide to go into that sort of depth.

    Go research :

    The rule of thirds
    Depth of field
    Bokeh

That should be a good starting point

I am so going to try snow boarding at some stage in the next 12 months, my friend is an avid boarder and she is dragging me off with her as soon as we can find the time.
    wish I could go too!!!!!

Oh and what is a table top strategy, as my mind is in the gutter and has made something out of that statement that I'm sure wasn't your intention?
No, but *roars preditorially*. Actually, it's a game where you have your own army and you use it to beat someone elses army. It's typically done with miniatures on a table and you use dice to determine how successful each move you make is.

Oops, forgot about my bad habit of playing bartender when I have guests. I experiment with mixes on my own and I offer the best ones to people who come over.

See I have this stupid hinderance to trying new things out, and that is that I feel I have to know it all in order to do it well, and it really holds me back from just trying things.
I have a similar problem, thankfully I get encouraged by the successes of each experiment.

Na na na na na na, sorry lol couldn't help it, I will trade you, RPG weekend for a boarding one, the RPG ones sounds way better. I mean I want to try boarding, but the RPG one has been a want for far too long.

So like chess but not quite like chess? sounds different, do let me know how you enjoyed it or not.

Yeah, I think that's the key, I have to just go for it, it's the failures that I hate obviously, but no success without an attempt right.

if you end up looking anything like your avitar like that... na I need to behave It is fun though, I just hate having to deal with the vamp cliches of the immature. A good LARP, though, is an awesome thing indeed.

Well, my last boarding session was 10 years ago and my last LARP was 5. Snowboarding tires me out after 4 hours, LARPing I go all weekend (sometimes with out sleep). I think I just might try going to Edmonton for the better stuff...

I'll either bitch or rave in my blog once I get back from it, ^_^.

Listen to Geoff, start easy then work your way harder. It's actually one of the reasons why I'm going to the experiment night rather than one of the challenge nights; I get to try with very little pressure and expectation and do the challenge nights once I'm more familiar.

I hear from other people who fish that it's nice and relaxing though.
You can use fake bait, but you still have to take the fish off the hook when you catch it, then if you want to eat it, you have to . . . make it edible.

It's only relaxing if you aren't catching anything. I think of it more like playing slot machines with a rod and reel at the lake, only I don't have to worry about losing a bunch of money.

One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

I call it a zoo but it's two parrots (one large, one small) and a dog. The parrots are basically as smart as a 3-4 year old and have the emotional maturity of a 2-3 year old. The dog is, well, just a dog but cute as bug's ear.

I taught myself origami when I was in grade school; It was a card instruction set my mother order for me from a German bookstore. I've continued teaching myself on and off since then and amassed a small collection of origami books with everything from animals to masks to planes to space ships from Star Trek in them. There are even a couple of books on doing origami with dollar bills of which I found the Dime-in-ring to be popular those odd times I've made them. It's really not that hard one you learn how to interpret the folding instructions and is kinda fun. I've even made Christmas origami decorations once. There are a couple of books with enough instructions that you can make an origami Nativity scene or origami Christmas tree.

Oh, I am a part of the hobby of the month club! I think because of the N in me, after I reach a goal in any hobby project I take on- I get bored and want to see what else I can do and want a new challenge. As a result of this I will never be of specialist quality in any of my hobbies I think, lol, but I will have dabbled in lots of things.

Things that I have been into the past and recently,
Making Fancy Fondant Cakes and from scratch
Composing Instrumental Music on the Piano
    Art-Drawing
    Decorating
    Poetry
    Crocheting
    Softball
    Basketball
Texas Holdem-winning a big tournament was my goal and getting a trophy- after I got the trophy from beating 140 people I lost complete interest! I never played for money though and would never want to,lol. HA!
I might go back to these hobbies one day and make a a kind of cycle out of them.

Things I will always be into as a hobby and interest
Playing Video Games/ Board and Card Games
Gourmet Cooking and learning a new recipe every month, especially from scratch
    Acting in Plays
Learning about History, Science, and Economics especially
    Comedy- Writing, Watching
    Karoake

Things I want to start learning and getting into eventually
    Playing the Violin
    Try Stand Up Comedy
Sewing= Designing and Making My Own Clothes
    Learn Sign Language
    Painting
    Ball Room Dancing
    Making Things Out of Wood

I really am actively and seriously interested in everything- I want to do it or at least try it all! LIVE LIVE LIVE!
Me and hubby made an RPG Nutrition Game
